Couple’s Therapist Messes Up Woman’s Mental Health, She’s Horrified After She Marries Her Ex

Not too long ago, talking about mental health was seen as a total taboo—but thankfully, things are changing. These days more people are open about getting mental health support and reaching out for online therapy or even relationship counseling when they need it. The tricky part though? Picking the right therapist. Because the wrong one doesn’t just waste your time—it can actually make things worse.

That’s exactly what happened to today’s OP. She ended up with a terrible couples therapist who, instead of helping, literally teamed up with her boyfriend and took advantage of her during one of the most vulnerable times of her life. It was toxic, to say the least. OP eventually broke up with the guy, but the shocker? Less than a year later, he actually married their therapist. Yeah, seriously.

So what did OP do after finding out this wild twist? Keep reading, because her next move might just surprise you.

She found proof that this is the 3rd name that the “therapist” has practised under, and she definitely plans to report her unprofessionalism

In today’s wild story, the Original Poster (OP) shared something shocking she found out about her ex. Back when they were together, they decided to try couples therapy to fix things during a rough patch. But after just three sessions, OP refused to keep going—mainly because the so-called therapist wasn’t helping at all. Instead, she was openly flirting with OP’s boyfriend and constantly belittling OP.

That’s literally the exact opposite of what relationship counseling is supposed to be, right? When OP pointed it out, her boyfriend gaslighted her, calling her delusional. Not surprisingly, they broke up two months later. But the real jaw-dropper came when OP went to his place to grab her mail—she spotted him heading out biking with a woman. Even with a helmet on, she instantly knew it was their old therapist.

Later, her suspicions were confirmed when a friend showed her a wedding photo—her ex had actually married the therapist. OP admitted she seriously thought about reporting the woman—not because she tied the knot with her ex, but because of how damaging and unprofessional her behavior was. It was the kind of therapist malpractice that can leave people traumatized and scared of seeking mental health support in the future.

Things got even sketchier when OP did a little digging. Turns out, this wasn’t even the first time. The woman had already been practicing under multiple names, and shockingly, she had a history of criminal charges. That was the final straw. OP decided to gather all the proof she could and report her directly to the American Counseling Association, making sure no one else fell victim to her again.

Netizens were absolutely shocked by this so-called therapist, with many questioning if she was even legit or just another fraud. And honestly, with all the stories about fake therapists and shady online counseling scams popping up these days, it’s not hard to believe. One huge red flag people pointed out? She never even made OP sign a consent form, which is a basic step in any kind of mental health support or relationship counseling.

Some commenters even suspected that since OP’s ex was the one who found her, set up all the appointments, and handled the payments, the affair might’ve started way before the “therapy” sessions. According to the American Counseling Association, a counselor is required to wait at least 5 years after the final professional session before starting a romantic or physical relationship with a former client. Clearly, she broke that rule in the worst way possible.

Experts also warn that if a therapist provides services that aren’t really therapy—or worse, if those services are harmful—clients absolutely have the right to file a complaint. And that’s exactly what OP went through. Many actual therapists online even chimed in, encouraging her to report the woman immediately, saying her behavior screamed therapist malpractice and could be dangerous to others.

Honestly, OP made the right call by reporting her. A therapist’s job is to guide healing, not make someone’s mental state worse. Sadly, OP didn’t share an update about what happened after the report, but hopefully this woman never gets another chance to damage someone else who’s already vulnerable.

So what do you think—would you have reported her too? Drop your thoughts in the comments, because this one has people divided.

People also said that it was better to report her, and many wondered whether she is even a real therapist or just a fraud
